Sri Lanka participates for the first time in Asian Winter Games
After two years of preparations SporTour was proud to be part of the first ever Sri Lankan Team representing the country at the Asian Winter Games held this time in Sapporo, Japan.
The project was started by Maxwel De Silva – Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka 2 years ago and SporTour was happy to play an important role in it every step of the way. Beginning with strategic planning and finding partners, through the preparations process and training camps in Slovenia, till the big finale when the young athletes competed in their first major winter sports event. SporTour’s Jan Pintar who helped with preparation and organization of training camps and was responsible for alpine skiing and Czech cross country skiing coach who trained the Sri Lankans in Slovenia – Jiri Danicek, joined the team in Sapporo to serve them with professional advice and keep the spirits high.
Five athletes, among them one girl, represented Sri Lanka in cross country, alpine skiing and snowboarding. And though they did not win any medals it was surely a historic moment both for them personally and the country, proving anything is possible if you dream big.
