For the first time in history Sri Lanka will participate in Asian Winter Games
Following the arrangements made in November 2015 Damjan Pintar visited Sri Lanka in June 2016 to further assist the local National Olympic Committee in finalizing their marketing strategy and help develop a historic project leading to the country’s first ever presence at Asian Winter Games.
During his week-long stay SporTour’s leading expert worked with Eranga Weerasinghe, Jospeh Kenny and Maxwel de Silva representing NOC Sri Lanka to finalize frameworks and documents connected with the organization’s marketing strategy. Topics discussed included also further cooperation between Sri Lankan NOC and Slovenian Judo club Sankaku. Athletes from Sri Lanka are already training in Slovenia before Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Damjan Pintar got also involved in a new and exciting project that confirms Sri Lanka’s commitment in making sports an increasingly important part of the nation’s culture. The 2017 Asian Winter Games will be held in Sapporo, Japan and for the first time in history Sri Lanka will send its athletes to represent the country at this event. Damjan Pintar took on the role of an advisor to the team, linking the local athletes with their Slovenian peers, including Rok Marguč – ex world champion in snowboard, and sharing his knowledge with reference to training camps and equipment. The possibility to organize training camps in Slovenia, including Planica for cross country skiers, will be further investigated in the coming weeks. Damjan Pintar helped also Mr de Silva to establish the first contact with Tomas Tauchman – General Manager of AlpinePro – the leader in outdoor clothing and accessories on the Czech market. The two parties will further discuss the possibility of starting cooperation for the next five years.
